My name is Melanie Torrey and I am so excited to be spending my 2nd year teaching 5th grade at Rocklin Academy Gateway!!
I graduated with my Bachelor’s in Psychology and minor in Women's Studies from Vanguard University of Southern California. After graduating, I was looking to pursue a career as a child psychologist. While looking into graduate programs, I took a job at an after school program in Orange, California. I quickly realized that teaching was my passion, and it was the perfect opportunity to use my knowledge and love for both psychology and education.
I received my teaching credential from Vanguard University and student taught in Newport Mesa School District. After completing my credential I was hired as a 5th grade teacher in South San Francisco Unified School District. I loved everything about teaching but knew my heart would always be in Placer County. I grew up in Roseville and was privileged to have many influential educators and wanted to make that same positive impact in other students lives in this area.
I feel honored to be working with such an amazing school who values community, parent engagement, collaboration, and creating engaged and responsible citizens.
Outside of teaching, I love to spend time outdoors with my husband and dog! We enjoy hiking, going on road trips, and spending time with our families!
