Hi! My name is Alissa Byrne, and I am thrilled to be returning for my fifth year as a second grade teacher at Rocklin Academy Gateway. I was born in Issaquah, Washington, where I lived until I was 18. I graduated from UC Santa Barbara in 2007 with a bachelor's degree in Psychology. From there, I was a 2007 Teach for America corps member in Los Angeles, receiving both my teaching credential and a master's degree in Elementary Education from Loyola Marymount University. This will be my 12th year of teaching (both in first and second grades). Ten of these twelve years have been at charter schools.
My husband Bryan and I have three little ones that keep us busy at home! Mckinley is 7 ½ and will be in 2nd grade at Gateway this year, Savannah is 5 and is starting kindergarten at Gateway, and Austin is 3. We relocated from the Los Angeles area five years ago to be closer to my family, who now live in Roseville. My husband was born and raised in Ireland, so we visit his family there annually. Bryan and I were both collegiate athletes at UCSB (I was a swimmer and my husband played soccer both in college and in the MLS). I have a big brother who is in the army, currently stationed in Hawaii and a sister who is an RN in pediatrics at UC Davis. When not teaching, you can find me and my family at a park, a pool, the gym, or with our church family.
Teaching at Rocklin Academy has been a tremendous experience so far. Partnering with amazing families, incredible colleagues, and a dedicated administration team truly creates an environment for our students that supports and challenges all students to achieve at high levels. I’m looking forward to another outstanding year of learning!
