Hello, fellow and future Gators! My name is Jan Mason-Lais, and I am excited to be starting my second year teaching Art for 7th & 8th Grade at Rocklin Academy Gateway.
I love art, and I have a passion for sharing that love with others. It may have been best expressed by Jason, a middle-schooler from Los Cerros, “Art is an adventure that never seems to end!"
I majored in Elementary Education at NNU and have not only taught art in my own classroom, but have been head of the Art Department for grades 4 through 8 in a private school in Southern California. I was also head of the Graphic Design Certificate Program at American River College Extension for more than a dozen years. As the owner and Creative Director of my own graphic design firm, I won both national and international awards for both design and my ability to assess it. Plus, in 2009, I completed my training as a certified life coach and bring those skills to the classroom as well.
I am the mother of identical twin boys who are just entering 9th grade. I was Art Docent in their classrooms from second through eighth grades including being head of the art docent program during their 6th grade year. I truly enjoy middle schoolers …enough that I extensively volunteered in their middle school music department as well as art. Some think I’m crazy, but I just like the adventure!
So, join me this year as together we create our own art while exploring art and artists around the world. Our adventure is about to begin!
